Penny War
Have you ever wondered which staff member might be the next Tik Tok dance star? For four weeks starting January 23rd the FTO will host a Penny War fundraiser. The students will use spare change to vote for one of four staff members-- Mr. Karleski, Mrs. Zalick, Mrs. Sales, or Ms. Groat. The winning staff member will learn and perform a Tik Tok dance at the March 1st Family Meeting!
To vote, students bring in change and place it in the jar with the staff member's face on it that they would most like to see perform a Tik Tok dance trend! Coins all count as votes-- a penny is worth one point, a nickel is worth five, a dime is ten points, and a quarter is twenty-five. Paper money (one, five, ten, or even twenty dollar bills) subtract points from the jar they are placed in. If you can tell someone is winning over your favorite staff member, you can take points away by placing dollar bills into their jar.
The money earned from this fundraiser will be used to help fund class field trips and host school community events in the future!

Seeking Volunteers
We are always looking for volunteers to help with different FTO and school events (see the "Volunteer" tab for upcoming opportunities). If you're interested in receiving emails when opportunities arise, please email christinedunne6@gmail.com. Volunteers will need to undergo a background check (it's quick and easy to do online) before volunteering at an event.

Gently Used Costumes Needed
Update: We have enough costumes for this year's event - thank you!
We are looking for gently used Halloween costumes (sizes 4T-adult) for students who might not otherwise have one. These students will get to pick one out on Halloween morning; each year, about 100 students are served by this program.

2022 Sixth grader Jayden Thompson suggested that a mural be painted at Salem Hyde with the school motto "Alive with Pride" translated into the seventeen different languages spoken by the students at our school.
With help from the school's ENL Department and many Salem Hyde families, they found a translator and finalized the painted words, Catholic Charities helped us too. The students who had family members help out were so proud and excited to see their native languages represented!
The FTO helped to fund this project and are delighted to help celebrate the diversity of our community-- especially in this welcoming way conceived of by one of our very own students.
